Students who wish to study in Singapore can take their pick from three types of educational institutions – polytechnics, Institute of Technical Education (ITE), universities.

The cost of education in Singapore depends on quite a few factors such as, duration of the course, university ranking, complexity of the course and its curriculum. Qualifying international students can avail a scholarship, grant or fellowship to help with their education costs.

Apart from the annual tuition fee, there may be additional costs that students must be prepared to undertake, such as books, supplies, food and boarding. The approximate cost of living expenses in Singapore would come up to S$ 750 to S$ 2000 per month.

 

Application Procedure

Admission in Singapore universities happens almost year round, and the major intake of international students would depend on each individual university. It’s best to first identify the university and look at their brochures in advance, so the applications can be sent in time.

The usual application process for universities in Singapore is:

  • Meet with one of our experienced educational consultants and zero in on a course/university that best meets the student’s desired career path.
  • Go through the university guidelines and make note of the application deadlines and eligibility criteria.
  • Fill in the college application and send it with the supporting documents.
  • Once admission is confirmed, students receive letter of approval that allows them entry into the country.
  • Apply for a student pass two months before the course commences.

Work Rights

Students may work alongside their studies provided they have a student pass. They can work a maximum of 16 hours per week during the university term. This restriction does not apply when the university is on vacation, and students can work full time during the holidays. However, certain private universities do not allow students to participate in any kind of gainful employment for the duration of their course.
